Profile:
Ray Killam
Position:
President and Chief Executive Officer, Essociates Group, Inc.
Stats:
Married; three kids, two sons-in-law, three grandsons
Education:
B.B.A., Economics, Washburn University (1970); M.B.A., George Mason University (1978); Graduate Certificate, eCommerce, Creighton University (2001)

How I Got Started: After graduation, Ray was assigned to the in-house study team at Security Benefit Life Insurance Company, where he was trained in process analysis by McKinsey & Company, Management Consultants. After completing a study of the forms management department, he was appointed Forms Manager and charged with implementing the study team recommendations.

His theory? Process improvement is the core function for achieving business efficiency and it requires attention to detail on a daily basis. Automation should be applied only after insuring that the process is properly structured. Forms Management departments should be assigned responsibility for process management.

After a successful career in forms management, forms sales, and sales management, Ray was Vice President, Marketing for a large forms manufacturer for many years. In this role, he was deeply involved with all aspects of the forms and forms management industries. He led the development of the Odyssey Integrated Services program, a comprehensive suite of forms-related services, including the Odyssey Network, a computer-based solution for forms management activities.

Recognizing the need to continuously improve his technical skills, Ray enrolled in a graduate degree program in electronic commerce. After a series of acquisitions involving his company, Ray retired from the forms manufacturing industry and founded a forms management consultancy company.

Current Professional Duties: Ray has always been involved in the forms industry above and beyond the call of duty. Ray joined BFMA in 1985, serving the Houston Chapter as Vice President. He served on the Board of Directors of IBFI for many years, culminating in the position of Vice Chairman of the Board. He has been involved with DMIA (and its predecessor, NBFA) for many years. He attended his first BFMA Symposium in 1990 and has not missed one since. He was one of the founders of the BFMA Education Foundation. He continues to be a member of DMIA and AIIM.

BFMA’s Potential Growth: Ray believes strongly in the potential of the forms management industry and in BFMA’s growth prospects. “We need to give members more opportunities to get involved on a regular basis through re-vitalized chapter meetings, online industry forums, study groups, and educational opportunities. Our programs such as the forms institutes, Master Series and Symposium are in great shape. Now, we need to extend these opportunities via online meeting technology. We have a plan to do just that. In addition, we need to develop more opportunities for our sponsors to participate. They are vital to our success.”

Most Fun Part of BFMA: "Taking part in a variety of venues in professional activities with other forms professionals. This includes networking, information sharing and training opportunities"

Favorite Quote: “If you keep on doing what you’ve been doing, you will keep on getting what you’ve been getting!"

Passionate About: Family, workouts, the Forms Management industry

Personal Statement: "It is my responsibility to foster and promote the forms management industry. All organizations have a forms management function – many just don’t realize it! I plan to be a visible spokesman for BFMA and the forms management profession to members, sponsors, prospective members, government and industry."
