Communications Awards

View previous Communications Awards Winners

If an association is its members, then an association is only as strong as the bonds between those members.  The BFMA Communications Awards recognize the efforts of chapters and ML groups to keep up the flow of information between members—to keep those bonds strong and active.

How to Participate
Chapter presidents and ML coordinators should download a Communications Point Record and use it to keep track of their member’s communications activities throughout the year.  Categories include:
Prospect Follow Up (2 points ea)
Let them know that you haven’t forgotten them.  See if any questions have occurred to them that you might be able to answer.

Welcoming New Members (1 point ea)
Let them know that you and your group are available and willing to help with whatever questions they might have.

New Member Check Up (1 point ea)
After several months have gone by, call to see how they are doing, if they are getting out of the membership what they had hoped for.

Renewal Reminders (1 point ea)
Everybody can benefit from a little reminder now and then.  And it gives you an opportunity to gage the member’s satisfaction level and discuss their thoughts.

Happy First Anniversary Notes (1 point ea)
Just a silly little note to congratulate them on completing their first year as a BFMAer.

Interviewing Delinquents (1 point ea)
Check in.  Let them know they’ve gone delinquent.  Find out why, but be respectful—membership isn’t for everyone.  However, just as many won’t have realized they are delinquent!

Birthday/Life Event Notes (1 point ea)
Membership isn’t just about dues and knowledge exchange.  It’s about people--celebration and mourning, joy and sadness.  Acknowledge it and share it with them.

Thank Yous to Volunteers (1 point ea)
They didn’t have to go that extra mile.  Let them know just how much you appreciate that they did.

Thank Yous to Speakers/Tour Host (1 point ea)
Someone went out of their way to share their knowledge with you.  Thank them for taking the time.

Thank Yous to Sponsors (1 point ea)
Sponsor support makes all of our activities and events possible.  If you and your constituents enjoyed an event they supported, let them know!

Employer Support Thank Yous (2 points ea)
Without employer support, membership wouldn’t be possible for most members.  Let them know what they’ve made possible and how much you appreciate it.

Monthly Announcements E-mail (3 points ea)
Let your group know what Association programs are cued up this month.  Help them stay involved!

Event Flyer (3 points ea)
Alert your group to major training opportunities coming to their area—anything from meetings, to an Essociates class, to a Regional Seminar, to Symposium itself.

Newsletter (10 points ea)
Introduce a far-flung group to each other through member interviews and discussion of workplace issues.

Web Site (30 points/year)
Invite the world to check out your group.  Show what a fun and education-oriented ML group or chapter they are missing out on!

After collecting and recording their chapter or ML group’s communications efforts for the year, chapter presidents and ML coordinators should submit their Communications Point Records along with supporting documentation to the International Communications Awards Chair:
