As I communicated late February I am very excited about this month's speaker! Jessica Enders, of Formulate will be sharing with us Visual perception and the Design of Forms, a presentation I was privileged to see last spring in San Antonio. Jessica was good enough to send me the following description of her class.
Thanks to many decades of research, we know a lot about how the human brain translates bits of light hitting our retinas into a cohesive image of the world around us. Yet, this doesn't make the science of visual perception any less fascinating and wondrous.
In this fun, enlightening and practical session, take a tour through the basic principles of visual perception that have direct relevance to the way people see and work with forms. With the help of a great mix of both goods and bad real-world examples, you'll soon have the tools to make informed decisions about how to best design your form, regardless of whether it's paper-based or electronic.
Jessica has a great deal of expertise in designing effective electronic forms, but I can assure you that the concepts she presents translate to paper forms as well.
Because Jessica is so far away (Perth, Australia to be exact), we need to tweak the date and time of our meeting slightly. She will be getting up at 5 a.m. for us. The presentation will be held
Thursday, April 15th at 4 p.m. MST
4 pm Alberta/NWT
3 pm British Columbia/Yukon
I do hope that everyone is able to make it, so I'll feel better for dragging Jess out of bed! Please confirm for me your attendance, if you don't mind. I want to be able to let Jessica know how many of us will be attending and make sure there are enough of us to make it worth her while.
Jessica is a terrific presenter and very much in demand at all kinds of information management, usability and forms conferences. She is funny, engaging and she supports her message with lots of real life examples. You don't want to miss this!
