|Benjamin F. Wiggs, CFSP|
Profile: Ben Wiggs, CFSP
Job Title: Senior Forms Analyst, Document Services Department
Company: Indiana Farm Bureau Insurance
Stats: Born October 29, 1959; married to Sandy; 2 children, Tyler age 19 - a sophomore at Purdue, and Morgan age 16 - a sophomore in high school. We live out in the country with 3 dogs, 2 cats, and 2 horses.
Education: I am a 1988 Graduate of Indiana University, with a BS in Business Management & Administration. I participated in the first round of CFSP study groups, and earned the Certified Form Systems Professional designation in the first year the exams were offered.
How I Got Started: I majored in Printing at George Washington High School, in Indianapolis. We were the last High School in Indiana to print our own year book in-house. We had several presses including a sheet fed Heidelberg that could run sheets up to 17 x 22” in size. I have worked at Indiana Farm Bureau Insurance since 1978. While I was attending IUPUI in Indianapolis, I worked part time in the Print Shop, Mailroom, and Inventory Control areas, pretty much wherever I was needed the most. It was while attending IUPUI that I met Sandy, who would later become my wife in 1983. In 1983, I also started my career in the Forms Department, primarily working with forms of lower usage to start out. I was promoted to Forms Analyst, then later on to Senior Forms Analyst. Indiana Farm Bureau Insurance is based in Indianapolis, and operates in the state of Indiana. We have local offices in each of the 92 counties, so our Agents know the needs of their communities very well. The Company has offered insurance services related to Life, Auto, Home, Farm, Annuities, and Business since 1934. We are the largest writer of Farm insurance and the second largest writer of Personal Lines in the state. Our company website is: www.infarmbureau.com.
Current Professional Duties: My current responsibilities include analysis and design of documents both printed and viewed on the computer, I oversee document-related activities for projects, prepare printing specifications for both in-house and outside vendor production, and maintain current equipment/software knowledge of our mainframe printers, PC-based forms solutions, and DocuMerge. We design and maintain all sorts of brochures, flyers, manuals, applications, worksheets, policy forms, billing notices, declarations, posters, and stationary/envelopes, which are used by employees within the company and by our insureds. Our Forms & Graphics department consists of three Graphics Specialists, one Forms Analyst, and a Senior Forms Analyst. I know that we are probably the best working group in our company. Between the five of us, we have over 115 years of experience with our company. Our jobs can be quite hectic meeting project deadlines, and handling rush requests. But we are all doing what we like to do – helping others do their job better.
Concerning BFMA: BFMA has served me greatly. Almost all of the education that I have concerning forms and documents has come from BFMA courses or Symposium. I would highly recommend attending the Symposium to everyone who works in the document/information service field. It is a great source of knowledge, and its strongest point is probably the networking with others in your field.
Earning the CFSP designation has provided me with a wealth of knowledge that I would not have attained otherwise. It has also earned me more respect with my customers within the company, my peers, and those that I work with from outside our company.
My Interests & Hobbies: I enjoy spending as much time as I can with my wife Sandy, and our children Tyler and Morgan. Keeping up with their sports schedule can be quite a job. I also enjoy, photography, fishing, genealogy, and working around the yard and the house.
