PC400 Designing Forms with LiveCycle Designer

In this workshop, we will begin with the basic tools of Designer, exploring the form components in the standard library as well as create our own in the custom library. Learn design tips and tricks while avoiding common design problems. Discussion around how static form design compares to dynamic form design will be included as well as tab-order, importing from Word or existing PDF fi les, action builder, alignment and layout techniques, tables, basic math calculations with scripting, master pages and multiple page layouts. This session will also discuss techniques that enable you to add intelligence to your form and to create dynamic layouts that react to the data or to user interactions.

PC500 Solving Business Problems using SharePoint and InfoPath

Although InfoPath has been a part of the Office since the 2003 version, most people haven't even known it was on their desktop. Now, though, with the release of both Office 2010 and SharePoint 2010, the importance of utilizing InfoPath has grown to the point that people are finally starting to take notice. InfoPath is embedded all over the SharePoint 2010 product as well as other Office 2010 products, which makes it an invaluable tool to learn whether it be as a developer of forms and solutions or as a user who understands that this tool can be considered when determining different ways to resolve business issues.

Clayton Cobb, a former InfoPath MVP and current SharePoint MVP, will walk us through what these two products mean to each other. You will first learn what InfoPath is by looking at it directly, building a simple form, and talking about the basic features. From there, we will see how to integrate this form with SharePoint 2010. After that, we will delve deeper into the other integration points between SharePoint and InfoPath. Lastly, we will walk through a multi-system-integrated, multi-product, fully-automated Leave Request system built on InfoPath and SharePoint 2010 as the main platform without a single line of code

F501 Understanding Forms – An Introduction to the Complexities of Design and Management

The forms development process is frequently complex, with many opportunities for inefficient support of forms-based processes. To begin to understand the complexities, it is useful to examine each of the four components of the a form: Intent, Container, Data, and Image. Forms can be divided into four types: pForms (physical substrate), eForms (electronic), iForms (Internet, or web forms), and vForms (virtual, or code-based forms).

This two-session class provides a foundation for any forms analyst, designer, developer and manager and offers a unique perspective to the forms development process.

What were the pitfalls? The benefits? How was the database developed, and what were the results in terms of efficiency and cost-savings? This class is intended to be interactive with a demonstration of the database using FileMaker Pro as the application. We'll explore current functionality and future plans for expansion.

F505 Variable Data Printing: Customization and Personalization

What's in a name? Research shows that personalization improves return rates and enhances the user experience. As a result, personalized service is important and common in the marketplace. This session will present examples of desktop and print shop methods that have been used at Standard Insurance Company to produce customized and personalized materials, as well as analysis and design tips, and forms management considerations. Attendees will be invited to share other methods with which they are familiar.

T605 Business Forms on the Apple iPad

This session will introduce BFMA attendees to the new world of business forms on Apple's iPad. It will cover traditional BFMA concepts and concerns but the session will focus on how our collective business form expertise can be applied in the new world of portable and interactive tablets. We will demonstrate an example of an interactive and dynamic iPad expense report and attendees will be able to download this app to their own iPads.

This is a critically important topic for the BFMA because many field personnel are now using the iPad to complete business forms while they are on-the-road or working with clients. Designing and developing iPad-based business forms is considerably different than traditional paper forms or traditional interactive PDF forms. However, the BFMA has always been a leading voice in form management and the BFMA will continue to lead with this new and exciting iPad course.

F506 A Document's Life Cycle

From the viewpoint of "cradle-to-grave", the life of the document must be looked at from an end-to-end process perspective in itself. It all begins the "form". Once the form is completed it becomes a document (record) and continues through the document lifecycle as it is stored, retrieved, and ultimately destroyed. The forms framework is the critical first step in this lifecycle.

With the growing movement in IT, users are confused between what is a form, a screen shot or an application. T607 How to Think Like a Dynamic Form

In Adobe® LiveCycle® Designer, there are 20-some events that can serve as placeholders for JavaScript or FormCalc code. For instance, the click of a button is always eventful (mouseEnter, mouseDown, click, mouseUp, mouseExit), and so is opening or closing a dynamic form. But with so many events to choose from, how do you decide where to place your code? Where will it work dependably? Where might it slow performance? When might it be ignored? Take some time to understand how a dynamic form works, when the various events fire, and what functionality can be added when they do. This session should decrease your level of frustration with coding and improve your forms' performance (as well as your own!). JavaScript samples will be included in handouts, so even those relatively new to coding will have a useful take-away.

T608 CASE STUDY: Controlling the Quality of Data Captured by Mobile Field Workers

Overland Solutions, Inc. (OSI) is a leader in business outsourcing services for the insurance industry. OSI's 2,500 field representatives provide premium audits, loss control consulting, commercial and residential inspection services, to clients across the US and parts of Canada, Puerto Rico, and the Virgin Islands.

Insurance companies engage OSI to gather the information they need to determine what risks to accept, and what to charge for the insurance provided. That process, called underwriting, is the fundamental determining factor of the success or failure of an insurance company. Unfortunately some studies have shown that nearly 50% of reviewed applications had material errors that would affect underwriting and cost the insurance industry billions per year.

OSI saw an opportunity to enhance their leadership position by exploiting PDF SmartForms to significantly increase the quality and consistency of the information they collected while also making their remote field workers more productive. This session presents the OSI solution that pushes partially complete forms out to mobile worker, allowing them to gather information while disconnected, and re-synchronizing when back online, through a fully managed process.
