Forms Professionals Experience Symposium
Lisa Lee, CEBS, FLMI
We have just returned from symposium, which provides a wonderful concentration of forms education and networking found nowhere else. There are as many perspectives on each symposium as there are attendees. We all bring different backgrounds and questions with us. In this issue of Forms Talk , in addition to the usual news from BFMA, you’ll find reflections on this special event from a variety of people. For those of you who were unable to attend, I hope this will give you a taste of the rich experience that one of BFMA’s in-person events can be. We’d love to have you be part of the tapestry. The next major event will be the Forms and Technology Conference in September. Meanwhile, here’s a glimpse into my experience of this symposium.

Master Series - Best Practices in Forms Management
Every organization has a forms management function. Regardless of the size and structure of your organization this function may be formal and managed, or informal and mismanaged, but it certainly exists. How do you ensure that your forms management function is adhering to recommended best practices for the industry? You begin by registering for the latest master series on the subject presented by Ray Killam.

Forms & Technology Conference - September 13-15, 2010
Symposium is over, but more education is on the way. Did you know that 75% to 85% of all transactional / transpromo generated documents start with a form? This made co-locating BFMA’s Forms and Technology Conference with DOCUMENT Strategy Forum a natural fit. What does this mean to you? Well, as a registered Forms and Technology Conference attendee, you'll be given access to any of the sessions taking place at the DOCUMENT Strategy Forum. The combined conference will offer seven tracks and feature more than 60 sessions and workshops over a three-day period to choose from, as well as a trade show component.

Report From the Canadian Forms Institute
The forms management profession took a major step forward last month in Toronto, ON. Forms professionals from across Eastern Canada attended the 2010 Canadian Forms Institute (CFI) to learn about the new Canadian National Standard on Forms Management and how it can be used to implement a best practices forms management program, gain senior management support, and provide structure to our profession. Bet Morash and Julie Stephens have been involved with the committee that worked with the Canadian General Standards Board (CGSB) to establish the voluntary standard. Their presentation received high marks from the attendees. Based on the obvious interest, BFMA is considering conducting a third CFI later this year to provide this learning opportunity to more people.

Think about it. What is a comfort zone? It is a space we slide into subconsciously, all the time. No matter what you are doing, favorite chair, favorite pen, favorite restaurant, favorite cup... without being too aware, we go to that subconscious space in our life all day, every day.

Excerpts From The Nominations
Kudos to Symposium
They have done it again! Another fantastic Symposium experience resulting from wonderful planning by the organizers and great support from the sponsors. This year was my third Symposium and each year it continues to improve. The quality of the educational sessions is second to none and the interaction with the sponsors allows the attendees to really get a feel for the products and services being offered. As with every other year that I have attended, the primary problem was not deciding which class to attend but rather deciding which class I was going to have to miss. A challenging decision to say the least but luckily the majority of the sessions that I had to miss have posted their presentations and white papers on the BFMA Website.

Best Work Time Spent So Far This Year!!!
Sherry M. Reid, CHIM
Director of Member Relations
I just returned from BFMA’s 41st Annual Symposium (2nd one I’ve attended) and I left feeling such a sense of place, belonging, trust and mutual benefit. Being involved in BFMA, really taking the time to meet other members and my regional partners showed me something bigger than myself. The knowledge gained on the future of forms design, technology and business process was invaluable.
