Symposium 2010 Keynote - Transforming Customer Relationships with Interactive Multi-Channel Experiences

In 1997 BFMA’s Strategic Plan stated the "primary function of a form is not changing — but how it is designed, where it captures information, and how it distributes that information will change with each new technological advance. These new tools will not only improve the quality of information processing and enhance the efficiency of an organization’s operations; their proper application will directly impact the bottom line.” What was true in 1997 remains true in 2010.

The economy has dictated the need for enterprises to re-evaluate their approach to acquiring and retaining customers, so as to drive to new levels of customer loyalty and profitability. At the same time, customer demands are skyrocketing. Clients want tailored services, delivered anytime and anywhere, and they demand confidence and security in every single transaction. There is an opportunity to revamp the way enterprises interact with customers and to improve margins while doing it. Increasingly, digital channels like online and mobile are becoming the preferred method for clients to acquire and service their services. Businesses that can deliver customer-centric services through these lower cost channels will not only capture market share and loyalty, but they will reap the rewards at the bottom line as well. At the heart of it all remains the form as the tool to capture and organize "data” so it becomes "information” to the customer.

John Knightly for the LiveCycle Business at Adobe, will discuss solutions and technologies, present and future, to improve the way companies interact with customers and constituents.

John Knightly

Vice President, Enterprise Marketing
Adobe Systems, Incorporated

As vice president, enterprise marketing at Adobe Systems, John Knightly is responsible for marketing Adobe’s integrated enterprise software suite, Adobe LiveCycle ES. His role encompasses solutions, product, and industry marketing in verticals including financial services, government, manufacturing and life sciences. Knightly and his team drive product positioning and messaging, field enablement, and the development of solution accelerators to help customers reduce time to market and increase the quality of their LiveCycle-based applications.

Knightly’s team is active in standards bodies, working towards the inclusion of Adobe technologies, such as PDF, into vertical industry standards.

Knightly joined Adobe in 2008 after spending more than six years at BEA Systems. While at BEA, he held numerous managerial positions in product, industry and partner marketing. Prior to BEA, Knightly held senior positions at a number of startup companies, spanning both tool and application markets. During the formative stages of his career he had exposure to the global technology sector at Honeywell Asia-Pacific and Nixdorf AG Germany.

Knightly graduated from Princeton University with a Bachelor’s degree in statistics. He earned an M.B.A. from the Anderson School of Management at UCLA.

Tom Allanson

CEO, PerfectForms
Tom has been leading teams in developing forms and integrated applications (forms with workflow, behaviors, more than one process stage, and integration with other databases and systems). His career has included leading teams at General Electric, Intuit, H&R Block and now PerfectForms. Each of these experiences provided Tom with new opportunities to explore form and application development. In 1997, Tom envisioned a development platform that enabled business process owners to independently develop a better solution without having to write code or involve other people outside the process. PerfectForms is a platform that delivers on that capability.

Dustin Borklund

Senior Forms Administrator, Toyota Financial Services
Dustin Borklund is a Certified Forms Consultant and Senior Forms Administrator at Toyota Financial Services. He practices Toyota's continuous improvement process called The Toyota Way to improve workflows and the forms within them. On Thursdays, Dustin moderates a weekly webinar for BFMA called the Master Series.

Lisa Croft

Acrobat Systems Engineer, Adobe Systems, Inc.
Lisa Croft is an Acrobat Systems Engineer with Adobe Systems, Inc. She graduated from Southwest Texas State University with a BBA in Computer Information Systems. Her professional career began by working for Pennzoil Company. After leading their project on Sales Force Automation, she formed a consulting company to provide services and training to various companies including Reliant Energy and United Space Alliance. Her specialization in forms and workflow automation brought her to Jetform Corporation as a Sales Engineer. When Jetform was acquired by Adobe Corporation in 2002, she moved into the ePaper Division supporting Acrobat and other business software. She currently focuses on the Adobe Acrobat product family and is thrilled to work with customers across the entire US.

Diane Darling

SE, Geneva Software, U.S. Department of State
Diane Darling has an extensive career working in domestic, international and government environments. In 1980, while working at MCI Telecommunication as Director of the Control Center, she was responsible for conducting comprehensive business process re-engineering (BPR) across organizations, aimed at improving and elevating efficiency and effectiveness. In 1998 she joined Iridium (start-up) to provide leadership for their end-to-end build-out of 15 Business Centers in 15 countries chartered to provide consistent customer care globally. While working internationally with a diverse cultural team, she used project management methodologies, and business process engineering strategies as essential tools to ensure consistent deployment in each country. Currently, she works for Geneva Software as a Program Manager, assigned to the Department of State, Office of Directives Management where she collaborates with management to incorporate project management and business process engineering to assist in delivering an all-encompassing forms program.

Craig Dartnell

Managing Director, Howick Design Pty Ltd
Craig Dartnell is Managing Director of Howick Design. Based in Sydney Australia, Howick Design is a consultancy service that specialises in the analysis and design of paper and electronic forms for high volume form users – typically banks, financial institutions, insurance companies and government departments. For over 20 years Mr Dartnell has worked with a wide cross section of clients and has demonstrated the ability to develop forms that are functional, user friendly and that meet both business and user requirements. Mr Dartnell is a regular speaker on forms related topics.

Robert Eisenberg

Robert Eisenberg is the author of the Process Automation: InfoPath & SharePoint Designer Workflow Course, and the founder of REAssociates. He has 25 years of experience in the IT industry. He is a SharePoint, InfoPath, and workflow expert. He has authored a book on Microsoft’s workflow technology, coauthored two others, and written numerous articles. Robert is an experienced instructor and a frequent speaker at .NET user groups, CodeCamp, and other leading conferences. He was awarded the BizTalk Server MVP four times. Robert is also a SharePoint Technical Specialist — both WSS and MOSS. Robert has held senior technology positions in publicly traded corporations and ran his own ERP consultancy in the past.

Chris Ethier

Chris Ethier has over ten years experience in solving customers challenges in the Enterprise. Chris has worked for leading technology companies such as Accenture and Nortel Networks. Chris’ past experience has focused on driving solutions for intelligent data capture & process automation. Chris is now engaged in providing strategic vision and direction to Adobe on their next generation of product solutions. Chris is also one of the key inventors of Adobe's patent for the XML Data Package format introduced in Acrobat version 6 and has brought to market several innovative solutions such as Form Guides and iStatements as part of the LiveCycle ES platform.

Chris Ethier is a frequent speaker at industry events and graduated from Carleton University where he earned a Bachelor of Honors in Economics.

Thelma Furlong

Director, Directives Management, US Department of State
Ms. Thelma (T.J.) Furlong was appointed as the Director, Office of Directives Management in June 2000. During her tenure she managed the expansion of that office which included the development of a Department-wide forms program, management of the Undersecretary for Management’s FAM-X Project to update the Foreign Affairs Manual, the development of new sections to oversee the Department’s requirements under the Paperwork Reduction Act and Office of Management and Budget Regulatory requirements for Rulemaking.

reviously, Ms. Furlong worked in the Resources Management Office in the Bureau of Human Relations. She also has had an extensive federal career which has taken her to various locations in the U.S. and abroad while working with the Federal Bureau of Investigation, Department of Treasury, Department of Navy, and the United States Agency for International Development. Ms. Furlong is also very active in her community where she holds senior leadership positions with her church and the Boy Scouts of America.

A native of Maryland, Ms. Furlong holds degrees in Information Technology from the University of Maryland, Criminal Law from Anne Arundel Community College, and a Masters in Business Administration from University of Maryland.

Franklin Garner

President and CEO, Amgraf, Inc.
Franklin has served as a speaker and instructor at numerous BFMA events, and in 2009 was a recipient of the prestigious Jo Warner Award. He also contributes to the forms-related programs at the Print Services & Distribution Association (PSDA), and was Treasurer for the North American Security Products Association (NASPO) from 2002-2009. During his career, he has written and co-authored several research papers and articles for leading business documents industry trade magazines and journals. Franklin co-founded Amgraf, Inc. in 1976. Amgraf specializes in forms software technology for print manufacturing, industry and government. Amgraf’s products are widely used for business forms pre-press automation, web-to-print solutions, and electronic and Internet forms systems.

Dr. Ben S. Graham

Chairman, The Ben Graham Corporation
Dr. Graham is a recipient of BFMA’s Jo Warner Award, a fellow of the Institute of Industrial Engineers and received a doctorate from UCLA in Behavioral Science – with distinction. He is the Chairman of the Ben Graham Group of Winnipeg, Manitoba and Ben Graham Latin America (both training and consulting organizations) and of the Ben Graham Corporation of Tipp City, Ohio (a training, consulting and software organization.) He has personally trained well over 30,000 people and taken pride in seeing many of them use this training to save millions of dollars for their organizations while developing outstanding work processes.

Ben is President of The Ben Graham Corporation and author of the book ‘Detail Process Charting: Speaking the Language ofProcess’ published by John Wiley Publishers. His company pioneered the field of business process improvement, and has providedprocess improvement consulting, coaching and education services to organizations across North America since 1953.He holds a BA in Economics from UCLA and an MBA from USC and has more than twenty years of experience working with theGraham Process Improvement Methodology with organizations in the United States, Canada and South America. Ben has workedwith many of organizations to build libraries of business process maps and develop effective, process-focused, continuousimprovement programs. His organization publishes Graham Process Mapping Software, which is designed specifically tohelp people understand business processes.

Kelly Halseth

Provincial Lead, Forms Management, Alberta Health Services
Kelly Halseth hails from Donalda, Alberta, the Lamp Capital of the World (she did not make that up). The youngest of five children she answers to Kelly, Becky, Margaret, Kevin and Hey You. After completing her second undergraduate degree Ms. Halseth was forced to find gainful employment. A chance two-week contract in health care became a nine year passion for business improvement that shows no signs of abating. Rumor has it she can converse on topics not related to forms, process analysis or Brett Favre, but this theory remains largely unproven.She does have a legitimate and very serious job as the Provincial Lead, Forms Management for Alberta Health Services (AHS), leading a team of very talented individuals in a newly created organization of 90,000 staff and 80,000 forms (and counting). She holds a BA in English and a BSc in Biochemistry from the University of Calgary. During Symposium you'll find her either teaching a session, attending a session or, when there are no sessions; in the nearest pub.

Bill Hill

Presently Mr. Hill is serving as the Chair of the Forms Systems Certification Board and after 42 years, Mr. Hill retired from Washington State Employment after developing and managing Forms and Records programs fortwo state agencies. He holds a BA in Economics from the Washington State University. A long-time member of the NW Washington Chapter of BFMA, Mr. Hill has served on it board of almost 20 years. He has also served on the BFMA International Board of Directors as Region 1 VP, Director of Education and VP of Programs for over 10 years. Presently Mr. Hill is serving on the Forms Systems Certification Board and volunteers as Institutes Coordinator. In 2000, Mr. Hill received the BFAM Award of Excellence. He has taught extensively at study groups, chapter programs, institutes and BFMA Symposium.

Ray H. Killam, CFSP, CFC is President of Essociates Group. Along with partner Carl Brannon, CFSP, CFC, Essociates Group provides a variety of forms-related services. Marty Lechleider

Marty Lechleider is the IBM Product Manager for IBM Lotus Forms. In this role Marty works with customers,business partners, and sellers worldwide to understand market requirements and shape the product plans and strategy for IBM Lotus Forms and the IBM Business Process Accelerator. Marty also focuses on IBM WebSphere Portal and IBM Lotus Forms within government markets. Brian Lincoln

Senior Product Line Manager, Xerox DocuShare
Brian Lincoln is the senior product line manager for the Xerox DocuShare Content Management Platform, based in Palo Alto, California. Brian has over 14 years of experience as a Content Management professional, including previous positions at Documentum and then EMC, Inc. where he specialized in launching vertical applications into government, and related regulated industries. He has performed roles spanning the entire product development lifecycle, evolving from engineering and consulting leadership positions into senior product management, where he also managed OEM relationships. Brian holds a bachelors degree in economics from California State University, Sacramento.

Kirk Masterson

Forms Program Manager, US Dept of State
Mr. Kirk Masterson is the Forms Program Manager at the Department of State and has held this position since December 2008. Leading up to this role, Kirk has had a unique career path. He graduated from the U.S. Naval Academy in 1997 with a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering. He then served as a submarine officer in the U.S. Navy and also completed a tour at U.S. Strategic Command in Omaha, Nebraska. Following the Navy, he attended the University of Florida where he earned his M.B.A. in 2006 with concentrations in marketing and finance. Kirk put his M.B.A. to work immediately by joining the Peace Corps where he served as a Small Enterprise Developer in Cameroon from 2006 – 2008.

Robin Miller

Forms Analyst/Designer, Rapid City Regional Hospital
Robin Miller is a graduate of the Computerized Office Careers program from Western Dakota Tech and holds a certification in Healthcare Informatics. She has worked for Regional Health for over 19 years, 8 of those as an Administrative Assistant and the last 11 years as the Forms Analyst/Designer. She has been instrumental in building the forms management processes for the entire hospital system. Robin specializes in forms analysis, forms design, and identifying and improving workflow processes. Additionally, Robin is a certified computer trainer for the Corporate Education Center at Western Dakota Tech. Robin has trained hundreds of individuals in the Rapid City community and surrounding areas through open enrollment and customized training classes in various software applications. Robin is also a graduate of Leadership Rapid City. In 2007, Robin was recognized and received the first awarded Distinguished Alumni Award from Western Dakota Tech.

In addition, Robin serves on the International Business Forms Management Association Board of Directors, and has served in various positions on the Program Council where she assists with identifying and developing curriculum and plans educational opportunities delivered in various methods (webinars, symposia, and instititutes). Robin also serves on the Western Dakota Tech Foundation Board, and also serves as the Chair of the Donor Recognition Committee.

AJ Mirwani

AJ has been in the technology industry for over 11 years. Currently, AJ works with the bay area's largest companies to to solve their critical business challenges and priorities with SharePoint's powerful capabilities. Prior to that, AJ spent 6 years as a Technical Architect, designing and deploying large WCM implementations for Fortune 500 companies.AJ also founded the Bay Area SharePoint User Group several years ago which is now a vibrant, multi-chapter organization supporting the technical community in Silicon Valley.

Rick Scanlan

Director, Sale Engineering, Accusoft Pegasus
Rick Scanlan joined Pegasus Imaging, DBA Accusoft Pegasus, with the acquisition of TMSSequoia in December 2004 after 15 years of service. During his tenure, Rick has served in a variety of technical, business development and corporate management roles including technical consultant for TMS' early CD-ROM publishing products, business development for imaging tools, sales management, and corporate management. Over the years, Rick has developed extensive expertise in a wide variety of imaging technologies including Internet-based imaging, image enhancement and forms processing. As General Manager of TMSSequoia's Internet Innovations Division, he was responsible for directing engineering, sales, and customer support. Rick was instrumental in bringing the Prizm® Viewer to market. Rick currently utilizes his years of imaging and consulting experience to assist the sales team in analyzing customer technical requirements and assisting with sales activities. Rick also helps define Pegasus product strategy and future development. A native of Oklahoma, Rick earned Bachelor of Science degrees from Oklahoma State University in Business Management, Economics, and Management Science and Computer Systems.

David Schroeder

Sr. Manager - Forms Team, American Funds Distributors
David Schroeder is the Sr. Manager of the Forms Team at American Funds Distributors, one of the nation's largest mutual fund families. David created the company's first forms team, establishing design and compliance standards where none existed. A longtime member of the Los Angeles Chapter of the BFMA, David has served in a variety of elected positions and has spoken at previous symposiums on Creating Forms Databases and Documenting Business Requirements. David's background includes process analysis, training and business process re-engineering.

She has been in the technology training industry for several years specializing in Adobe Acrobat, eLearning and Microsoft Office. She initiated the Adobe Acrobat User Groups in Lincoln and Omaha, Nebraska. As the Chapter Leader, she hosts monthly meetings for over 200 members. She is also one of the Leaders for the Nebraska Adobe Captivate/eLearning User Group.

Jeff Stanier is a Sr. Product Manager for the Adobe LiveCycle product line. Over the past decade Jeff has lead Adobe’s enterprise efforts in data capture, xml technologies, accessibility, data integration and rich internet application tools. Prior to Adobe he developed and delivered custom solutions for Financial and Government clients around the world. Jeff holds a Bachelor’s degree in Law and is currently completing his Masters in Business Administration.

J.P. Terry

CEO, SmartDoc Technologies
J.P. Terry is the CEO of SmartDoc Technologies, a leading consultant in the field of intelligent and dynamic document solutions. SmartDoc specializes in the Adobe LiveCycle and InDesign Server platforms, and has developed paperless solutions for Fidelity Investments, Merrill Lynch, and Citigroup. SmartDoc Technologies is a member of the Adobe Solutions network and has offices in New York, New Jersey, and Beijing, China.

J.P. often writes and speaks about dynamic PDF and Adobe LiveCycle, and is the author of "Creating Dynamic Forms with Adobe LiveCycle Designer" (Adobe Press, 2007) and, "Paperless: Real-World Solutions with Adobe Technology" (Adobe Press, 2009). Prior to SmartDoc Technologies, J.P. founded BrandWizard Technologies, a division of Omnicom (OMC), and was the CEO of BrandWizard from 2000 until 2005. Mr. Terry is a graduate of the Rhode Island School of Design, the Omnicom Executive training program, Microsoft’s .NET Certification program, and Wharton’s Financial Executive program.

Howard graduated as a Electrical Engineer, and has spent most of his career trying to help organizations save money and time through the use of creative and innovative software solutions.

Vamsi Vutukuru

Project Manager LiveCycle Forms, Adobe Systems
Vamsi Vutukuru is the Product Manager for Adobe’s flagship LiveCycle Forms & Reader Extensions software. He is responsible for Forms product strategy, new feature development and the overall product lifecycle. Earlier, he was the CEO of Appin Security Group (ASG), a leading IT Security services firm. Vamsi was responsible for overall business development, project delivery and technology development at ASG. Before Appin, Vamsi held various product management and business development roles in Tata Consultancy Services and IBM. Vamsi completed his B.Tech from Indian Institute of Technology, Delhi and M.S from University of Texas at Austin, both in Computer Science.

Jess Walker

Senior Product Manager LiveCycle ES, Adobe Systems, Inc.
Jess is a long time Adobe employee starting in the print group in the early Nineties and taking progressively more responsibilities until leaving the company in 1999 to pursue an opportunity at a start up. Jess worked as a consultant at HP from 2001 until 2003, as a business analyst in the sales operations team with responsibility for the deployment of the Oracle eBusiness suite and the world side sales funnel applications. Jess has been working in the LiveCycle team since 2007 and currently has responsibility for the Content Services and PDF Generator products in LiveCycle ES.

Ben is a certified Adobe trainer with 12 years technical consulting experience. He is an Adobe LiveCycle Designer specialist who regularly contributes to the community through blogs, forums and speaking at conferences.

Albert Weisner

Vice President, Information Analysis, Inc.
Leads IAl's eCommerce Business Unit. He is responsible for IAl's sales, marketing, and support of IAl's eForms Solutions Offerings.

For over 16 years, he has worked closely with virtually all major agencies of Federal Government with over a dozen project involving professional services, electronic forms development, forms installation, application development and deployment, and training.

Al's previous experience includes: Director for Business Development for Cincinnati Bell Information System (CBIS), Sprint, Martin Marietta,and 22 years of executive, sales, and technical responsibilities at UNISYS (Sperry).

Al has severed as the Nations Capital Chapter Treasure for 9 years and was awarded the BFMA Award of Excellence in 2006.

Also, Al has presented that the 2008 and 2009 Symposiums.
